Description

Volunteers will work with DOC staff from Owaka to undertake different tasks around the Catlins and along the Southern Scenic Route, which goes through a beautiful and forgotten corner of New Zealand. This area is rich with distinctive natural features, abundant wildlife and stunning beaches. Tasks will include vegetation trimming, track cutting, culvert clearance, water table clearance and helping the team with other general track and hut maintenance.

What to expect

Fitness/skills required: High.

Accommodation: Fully-furnished DOC house at Papatowai, beside the campsite. Each volunteer will have their own bedroom, but the kitchen, bathroom and lounge may be shared with DOC staff working in the area.

Pickup/drop off location: Meet at the DOC Field Centre, 20 Ryley Street, Owaka at 8.30 am on Monday 16 July, returning to the same location around 4.00 pm on Friday 20 July.

Cost: There is no charge for this activity.

What to bring

Volunteers will need to provide their own food and transport. Due to the isolated location of the Catlins it is essential that volunteers have their own vehicle.

A full equipment list and information pack will be issued prior to the commencement of the activity.
