Casual evenings (approximately 5 pm to 10 pm) from mid-October to mid-April. Volunteers must commit to at least one month during this period.
Carpools can be arranged between volunteers however your own transport is preferable.
Volunteers will talk to Sandfly Bay visitors about yellow eyed penguin/hoiho and the New Zealand sea lion/rāpoka/whakahao and explain how to behave appropriately around them.
Volunteers may at times need to politely intervene if inappropriate behaviours are encountered.
At the end of each shift volunteers report back to a DOC ranger.
What to expect
Weather: Volunteers will at times experience cold windy weather conditions.
